McGill’s Newest Regional Composting Facility – McGill Fairless Hills

Construction continues at McGill’s newest fully enclosed compost facility in Falls Township, PA.  The McGill Fairless Hills facility is built to manage over 130,000 tons per year of mixed organic material along with yard and tree waste from the area.  When completed, this regional composting facility will become a valued piece of infrastructure along the eastern seaboard between Philadelphia and New York City, serving customers in PA, NY, NJ, DE, and MD.  The facility is expected to be completed in early 2024.

Cutting Edge Design and Technology

The McGill Fairless Hills facility embodies the culmination of over 30 years of technology and process refinements by McGill.  The Fairless Hills facility is completely enclosed, including intake off-loading, and utilizes air recirculation with exhaust through biofilters to effectively manage odors.  With remote temperature monitoring and computerized process control, the Fairless Hills facility will efficiently process a variety of organic feedstocks including food scraps, agricultural residues, biosolids and yard/tree waste into nutrient rich finished compost

Environmental Benefits for Our Customers and the Planet

The Fairless Hills facility will add significant composting infrastructure to the region.  The broad array of intake material diverted from landfills or incineration is exactly what industrial customers and municipalities are seeking as they continue to maximize sustainability and minimize their emissions of greenhouse gases by putting what was previously considered waste to a beneficial use.

Community Engagement and Economic Growth

Not only is the Fairless Hills regional compost facility a win for industry and the environment, it brings significant economic benefits to the region.  The construction phase for the facility has brought numerous job opportunities for local workers, and when fully operational it will continue to deliver benefits to the community via jobs, economic development, and sustainable infrastructure.  The facility will also serve the community as an example of the importance of composting and organic waste diversion. Through collaborative partnerships and educational outreach programs, we aim to empower individuals, businesses, and organizations to make environmentally responsible choices.
